WEDDING SERIES: The Engagement | Irfan&Shumaila

A few weeks (maybe months! ahh!) ago, Irfan and I were looking through our registry photos and I showed some on my Insta story/snapchat asking if you guys would like to see more. Since then, I've received an overwhelming response!! I am so excited to share them with you, I received quite a few messages also asking about my dress, and my make up, so I thought I should blog about it! After thinking about the blog post, I would love to start a wedding series where I could blog about all my events, starting from my engagement up until the wedding. I see it as kind of a scrap book, something I could come back to read in the future and be reminded of all the beautiful memories. & this way I can relive these special moments of my life with you!!
Here we go! Part 1 of the WEDDING SERIES:
THE ENGAGEMENT
I hope you are as excited as I am <3
I would love to start by introducing you to the first event celebrating our love, the Engagement!
I spent about 2 months planning for this day, I had the help of my mom, and of course… Pinterest!! Pinterest is floooded with ideas and at that time I did not really have many ideas about weddings/events. I didn’t really have a theme in mind, so I just went for something super basic, my favourite colour; pink!
DECOR : BLISS BEGINNINGS BY BANEEN
IG: @blissbeginnings
I found a decorator super quick and they were amazing to work with! At the time they didn’t do florals so I had to get someone else to work on the florals which definitely upped the price but the end result was exactly what I wanted. I was floored when I walked into the hall, everything was stunning. The backdrop was exactly how I wanted it, they even added some more to it on the day of which was a happy surprise.
One thing I would change were the vases with water in them, which could’ve fallen really easily, so the entire time I was watching them & kinda freaking out on the inside every time someone came up on the stage! Haha. Otherwise it looked great!
FLORALS : SAMEENEH FROM CREATIVE TOUCH DESIGN
IG: @creativetouchdesign
I am obsessed with flowers and floral EVERYTHING, I had to have florals everywhere. The centrepieces were floral, part of the backdrop was also floral. I am a bit excessive when it comes to florals but they just smell and looks sop good!
To save some $$, skip on the real flowers, especially for the centrepieces. Instead, go for the fake flowers or any other kind of centrepiece!
MAKE UP : ME
I did my own make up for the engagement, I knew exactly what look I wanted to do, plus I practised beforehand. I am also sure that I would’ve been way too stressed to let someone else do it!
PHOTOGRAPHER : SUHEIL PHOTOGRAPHY
IG: @Suheilthegreat
Our photographer was my brother! He had recently started his photography business and it worked out great! He has some serious talent!! Just look at the photos below, he captured some very special moments beautifully.
OUTFIT : DI’ZAIN HAUTE COUTURE
IG: @alinapirani
This was the first time I got to truly dress up. I had not done so in the past as it is customary for a young girl not to look too dolled up until she is engaged/married in my culture.
I had no idea where to start! I have found it so difficult to shop for nice Indian/Pakistani clothing in Toronto, especially something on the fancier side. Di'Zain had an amazing selection, I couldn’t go home with just one, so came home with 2 #saarinotsorry#myshoppingproblem. My outfit was off the rack but they also do custom work, both bridal and non bridal, and its a lovely experience.
LOCATION : BAYVIEW GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
This location was an absolute DREAM! I wish I had my wedding and all other wedding events there too! It was straight out of a fairy tale! The hall was gorgeous with beautiful big open windows, lots of stunning lighting and beautiful chandeliers! I worked with their event planner who made sure the event went by without any issues. Having your event at a golf club means the photos will turn out great, the scenery all around was beautiful since the area surrounding the building was kept really well, especially all the greenery and florals hehe.
HENNA :
I will be keeping the henna artist nameless as I wasn’t too happy with the way she conducted her business. Her work was beautiful, I got the henna done 2 days before the event which is the best time for the stain to get the darkest yet there was no colour to the henna when I asked the henna lady she said it was because I did not take care of the henna stain. Turns out that a majority of the brides she did henna on that year had the same complaint. The colour of the henna didn’t bother me as much as the way she handled the complaint. I could not recommend a business like that. At the same time would not want to completely discredit and negatively impact someone who is so talented in her work.

The moment I walked into the room with my Dad by my side, I felt as if I was in a dream. Not only did everything look perfect, everyone there did as well! Most importantly, all the smiles in the room touched my heart and that is a moment I won’t ever forget!!
Without knowing it at the time, all the planning I did for my engagement was just what I needed. The perfect trial run for all the wedding preps that were about to begin…
