WEDDING SERIES: Guide To Your First Couples Photoshoot!

If you are like me then the first thing you thought of after getting engaged is getting in those engagement shots!
Here are my tips and a few things to keep in mind whilst planning for the shoot:

PHOTOGRAPHER - do your research!! To find photographers in your area, try google or wedding websites! All photographers have a unique vision, and a different way they shoot. Look through their social media and website to see their absolute best work and bio. You will get a sense of their work and if you are happy with it book a consultation. Once you meet with them, speak to them, you will find out if you are comfortable with them. Comfort is key!! If you are comfortable with your photographers then the shoot will go smoothly :)

Don’t expect your photographer to have poses ready for you, come prepared with your own photo ideas as well. The best way to do this is make a Pinterest board. Share this Pinterest board with your photographer beforehand if possible, this way you guys are on the same page.

LOCATION - for photos that are unique to you two as a couple, find someplace meaningful. If you guys met at school, then do your shoot there! You can do your shoot at the place you met, where he proposed, first date... anything really. Going for a place that is significant to you two will add more value to the photos.

Find someplace with lots of different spaces for a variety of photos, such as a rustic area downtown, a museum, some universities are gorgeous to shoot at as well!

If the weather is nice then I would recommend going somewhere outdoors, nature is photographer so beautifully, you can do a park with a nice garden, a beach. I would recommend you go to google and search for portrait photoshoot locations in your city.

Many places will require a permit for photos so be sure to look into that, you wouldn’t want to get kicked out halfway through your shoot.

PROPS - Make your shoot unique, bring props! You can bring and use almost anything to add new elements to your shoot. Bring something that you guys enjoy doing, maybe riding bikes, eating food, reading books. You could have a little picnic for your shoot, or stay home and play video games. Look online for prop ideas as well, it will give you lots of ideas!

CLOTHING - You don’t need to match your partner completely, you are not twins. Have complimenting colours in your outfits. Coordinate your outfits so that you match each other, you can both be casual, or formal. Don’t show up wearing jeans and a t-shirt if your partner is wearing a formal suit. I am sure you guys get the point!

Choose your outfits based on the theme of your shoot. You can have either super fancy attire or casual clothing at a beach location, they will both give your photos a completely different look.

HAIR AND MAKE UP - These photos will be there for you two to look back on always, bring out your best self. Add a bit of make up, not to make yourself look different but to enhance your - already beautiful - self. Remember, the camera can pick up and accentuate even the smallest imperfections, and your photographer probably won’t go back and retouch every single image.  For hijab I would highly recommend going with a chiffon hijab as they don't crease, look flowy and so pretty.

THE DAY OF - Just be relaxed, go in to the shoot excited and enjoy yourself! A good photographer will guide you and make you feel relaxed. The shots will turn out beautiful, just have fun with your plus one :)

Hope this helps you plan our your first shoot!
